Forensic anthropology casework from Switzerland (Bern): Taphonomic implications for the future

چکیده
Retrospective, observational studies of forensic casework enhance knowledge on topics such as postmortem interval (PMI) estimations and search strategies. This 10-year survey anthropology (FA) performed at the Department Physical Anthropology in Institute Forensic Medicine Bern, Switzerland, provides insights into a variety human bone cases recovered different circumstances. In this study, we present 58 from our database. The surveyed comprise high proportion dispersed remains, leading to low recovery rates. addition, about third were discovered Swiss Alps. Future research should concentrate enhancing rate outdoor scenes PMI estimation. is especially important for remains found altitudes, because due melting glaciers, expect more previously covered frozen be released following years. Systematic, longitudinal case reviews further provide reference that can used refer FA expertises.

Forensic anthropology casework-essential methodological considerations in stature estimation.
The examination of skeletal remains is a challenge to the medical examiner's/coroner's office and the forensic anthropologist conducting the investigation. One of the objectives of the medico-legal investigation is to estimate stature or height from various skeletal remains and body parts brought for examination. Various skeletal remains and body parts bear a positive and linear correlation wit...

Traditionally, methodology within forensic anthropology has involved very basic techniques of measurement, observation and interpretation. Rooted in the academic fields of anatomy and physical anthropology, forensic anthropology has grown to address problems of recovery, determination of species, estimation of age at death, sex, ancestry, stature, postmortem interval, and the evaluation of evid...

In forensic applications of speaker recognition it is necessary to be able to specify a confidence level for a decision that two sets of recordings have been produced by the same speaker (or by different speakers). Forensic phoneticians are sometimes criticized because they find it impossible to provide hard estimates of the confidence level of their expert opinions. This paper investigates t...

The Qiagen BioRobot EZ1 is a small, rapid, and reliable automated DNA extraction instrument capable of extracting DNA from up to six samples in as few as 20 min using magnetic bead technology. The San Diego Police Department Crime Laboratory has validated the BioRobot EZ1 for the DNA extraction of evidence and reference samples in forensic casework. The BioRobot EZ1 was evaluated for use on a v...
متن کاملMitochondrial DNA Sequence Analysis - Validation and Use for Forensic Casework.
With the discovery of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the mid-1980's, the last in a series of critical molecular biology techniques (to include the isolation of DNA from human and non-human biological material, and primary sequence analysis of DNA) had been developed to rapidly analyze minute quantities of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). This was especially true for mtDNA isolated from challe...
